Scholaxia ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

• Account data: name, email address, role (student/teacher), and password (hashed — never stored in plain text).
• Profile data: subjects, education level, school, and profile photo (optional).
• Usage data: classes attended, CBT scores, library activity, and AI tutor conversations.
• Payment data: we use Paystack for payments. We never store full card numbers. Paystack's privacy policy applies to payment data.
• Device data: browser type, IP address, and device identifiers for security and analytics.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide the Scholaxia platform — live classes, CBT practice, AI tutoring, and library access.
• To personalise your learning experience and recommend content.
• To process payments and send purchase receipts.
• To send class notifications and important account updates.
• To improve the platform and fix bugs.
• To comply with applicable laws.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

• Service providers: Paystack (payments), Firebase (push notifications), Cloudinary (media), and Render (hosting).
• Teachers/schools: your name and participation data may be visible to your teacher within a class.
• Law enforcement: only when required by law.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Scholaxia offers a "Kind" mode for younger learners. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Parents may contact us to review or delete a child's data.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data while your account is active. You may request deletion at any time — see Section 7. Payment records are retained for 7 years as required by financial regulations.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security: HTTPS, bcrypt password hashing, JWT authentication, and Paystack's PCI-DSS-compliant payment infrastructure.

7. Your Rights

• Access: request a copy of your data.
• Correction: update your profile at any time from the app.
• Deletion: request full account deletion — see the deletion page.
• Portability: export your data on request.
• Opt out: unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

8. Cookies

We use localStorage and sessionStorage (not third-party cookies) to remember your preferences and session. No advertising trackers.
